Our Lab

We are a diverse group of researchers passionate about advancing AI for accelerating invention, foundation models, and AI agents. Our work spans theoretical foundations to practical applications in discovery, design, and optimization. Over the years, more than 20 students and postdocs from our lab have gone on to drive AI/ML efforts at Google DeepMind, Meta, OpenAI, xAI, Amazon, and leading hedge funds, or to build their own research groups at universities such as Georgia Tech, Northwestern, NYU, UCLA, Boston University,University of Toronto, and many other universities. I’m grateful for this community and excited to keep growing it.

Mengdi Wang

Professor and Founding Co-director of Princeton AI for Accelerated Invention.

I am Professor at the Center for Statistics and Machine Learning, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and by courtesy, Department of Computer Science and the Omenn-Darling Bioengineering Institute at Princeton University. I got my PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science with a minor in Math from MIT in 2013, where I worked with Dimitri P. Bertsekas at the Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems (now IDSS). Before that, I did my undergraduate in Tsinghua University majoring in Automation. I am proud to work with scientists and practitioners implementing algorithms, handling real-world data/systems, and applying AI technology to accelerate scientific research. Proud to work with talented students from Princeton and beyond. I am also proud mom of two little ones. My Erdos number is 3.
